Sonoma Weekend at MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa

A little photo diary for you from this past weekend in Sonoma. We stayed at MacArthur Place Hotel & Spa this time around and it was adorable. It’s been on my radar so I was excited to finally check it out… and I’m happy to report that it lived up to my expectations / is such a gem! Definitely one to keep in mind when looking for places to stay in wine country. The gardens and grounds are so charming. Filled with florals and art sculptures which I of course appreciated and loved.

Originally a 300 acre vineyard, working ranch and 19th century estate that has been transformed into the charming hotel & spa that it is today. There are 64 rooms / suites on the property and we were pleasantly surprised with how big our suite was… which is always especially nice when staying with kids. It’s located just blocks from the Sonoma square and minutes away from some of our favorite wineries (and Train Town which we finally took Rex and Willow to for the first time — big hit!). All around it was such a fun weekend getaway and adorable boutique hotel to keep in mind for the next time you’re in the area.

After checking in on Friday afternoon we walked around the property before grabbing dinner at Layla, the hotel restaurant. The sculptures throughout the gardens and the art on site are all in collaboration with Aerena Galleries and Uprise Art. And I loved recognizing the works of Cherly Humphrey’s and Sarah Marlowe Hall in the main building. So fun to see!

Cozy Casual Sonoma Weekend /

I packed so minimally this weekend –– basically lounge attire and I even arrived in my workout leggings (these are so comfy) because it was one of those days where I didn’t get a chance to change before we left. I’ve been living in this pullover… and spent most of this weekend in this shearling and leather goodness. My ideal cozy-mode attire for a rainy weekend and the chance to unplug!

Vacay Rex is a vibe.

The suites are huge –– such a great size if you’re planning to go with kids –– there was a pull out sofa for R & W to sleep on with still plenty of room when it was pulled out. We put the fire on in our room each night and let the kids watch movies. Saturday evening we ordered room service and on a rainy evening it made for such a nice night in. We also took full advantage of the outside shower which Rex and Willow had so much fun in.

I love that I’m in a huge puffed shearling jacket and yet my kids are running around in t-shirts. Typical!

God bless T, carrying the kids and my coat!

There was a wedding about to take place in the gardens so we were trying to sneak R & W out of there before the vows.

A drizzly afternoon at Scribe winery in Sonoma

Scribe is just as special in the wine cellar on a rainy day as it is on a sunny one running around the knoll. We had the absolute best afternoon enjoying a bottle of Pinot Noir… and Rex and Willow are now at the ages where we can (kind of) get in an hour or two of hang time while their working on workbooks / coloring which was such a treat. My ideal afternoon!

We have a few more weekend trips on the books this fall / winter which I’ve been so looking forward to!

This girl loves her burgers!

We ate an early bird special (5:30pm) at Layla Friday night in the restaurant and Saturday we order room service in which was such a nice treat after an afternoon spent at Scribe. Room service and a hotel movie night… can’t beat it.

Other meal musts, if headed into the Sonoma square: Valley Bar & Bottle (we went for brunch on Saturday) and of course, a Sonoma classic, The Girl & The Fig.

It rained most of Saturday and the fire pits throughout the property made for such a cozy fall mood! They also have s’mores kits which we took full advantage of after a day of wine tasting.

We took Rex and Willow to Train Town on Sunday before leaving Sonoma and it was such a hit. It’s such a sweet little amusement park that a number of our friends have raved about over the years. I’m not necessarily one for rides but Train Town was super cute. And I always appreciate an easy park that you can just pop into for a short time (even just for the train ride). It was the perfect activity before grabbing lunch and getting on the road to head home.
