Summer Simplicity | Travel Essentials

I’m all about simplicity when it comes to packing and especially in the summer… or at least I try to pack as light as possible… (giving myself some wiggle room because obviously I do love fashion and options). Also, when traveling with my husband he guilt trips me into packing carry-on. Or I guess he’s trained me to pack carry-on over the years… anyone else’s husband do the same? But I think it just adds to the carefree-ness of the trip when you pack lightly. Right?!

I was just at my sister’s this past weekend and have kept my toiletry bag ready to go since coming home… just swapping in a few extras (sunscreen!) for our trip to Cabo this weekend. I like to keep a toiletry bag ready to-go with the travel size items in the summer for those last minute weekend trips to see family.

Which got me thinking about sharing my travel essentials and what I’m tossing in my bag for Cabo…

Packing Essentials |

I love packing cubes for longer trips to keep items organized and this leather travel duo for my toiletries and makeup.

In My Makeup Bag |

This BB Creme has become my ultimate beauty item since my girlfriend Meghan introduced me to the product when we were in Paris. Which, side note, if you’re ever in France it’s half the cost at the pharmacy. It’s what I’ve been using ever since as my foundation and is my daily spf as well. If you have fair skin like me, I highly recommend giving a try … it covers all of my blemishes and redness and feels like putting on an Instagram filter in the morning. It’s the ideal coverage but still a very natural look that I like for everyday. I like the look of it on my skin so much that I basically have just been wearing that… especially in the summer when I don’t want to wear a lot of makeup.

Also in my beauty bag: blush and bronzer for that summer glow. And I’m never without a lipgloss. I really love this Kosas one which is super hydrating… it’s actually a lip treatment and gives that glossy plumping effect.

Airport Style |

My airport style is very basic… I’m always cold so an easy pullover (I’ve had this one on my wishlist or I’m really into these colors) over a tee (this one is super soft) and just comfortable, usually a wider leg style jeans (another option) and sneakers is my go-to. For Cabo this weekend I’m thinking of wearing these slides *(ALICIA15 for 15% off) on the plane so I don’t have to pack them. They’re such a comfy style for walking too. I always try to wear my bulkiest shoe on the flight so I don’t have to take up room in my suitcase.

And to wear or not to wear the hat when in the airport? I usually wear mine… but it can be annoying too… I am bringing this fedora which is a packable one I’ve had for a while now from Janessa Leone. Such a classic style and is also UPF 45+ which is especially nice for summer.

The Bag |

My raffia Khaite bag (similar version I love) is the ideal size for a carry-on and is also a stylish option for carrying down to the pool / beach once you get to your destination.

Travel Style |

You know when you pull up to a hotel or arrive at check-in… those chic, effortlessly pulled together women that you see… in my dreams I want to be her one day… but I’m definitely not there. I’m more of a roll out of bed… no makeup… schlepping all of the kids’ gear and arriving in boyfriend jeans rather than the all-white linen attire. But if you’re wanting to achieve that effortless travel look upon arrival… did you see Toteme’s exclusive travel capsule with Mytheresa? Sadly a few of the pieces have sold out of most sizes but it’s worth checking out. Included: canvas tote bag (also in cream), suede thongs, beach cover-up, the chicest striped beach towel, cotton mini dress (would be a cute cover-up option)… the perfect summer vacation pant and more.

And speaking of effortless travel style and Toteme, I love to throw this skirt (which I own in an orange / rust color) in my bag… the crinkle material is my jam when traveling. Also love.

The real key to packing light:

Try all of your outfits on beforehand (if there are big events etc. obviously you want to make sure everything fits and goes together as you see it in your head and the shoes can work with multiple outfits).

And lastly, sadly, I’ve lost my fair share of nice jewelry over the years when traveling so I really don’t pack very much. Usually whatever I wear on the plane. Which isn’t exciting for accessorizing but I’ve learned my lesson and again this adds to the simplicity of the summer getaway!
