When I was living in Upstate New York during the final year of my guy’s business school program at Cornell I learned how to properly layer for those extreme temps. This California girl didn’t know what I was in for. Bone-chilling, brain freezes–yikes! I remember I would call my mom while walking across campus and have to hangup after 2.5 minutes because my hands could stand it any longer (and that was with gloves on). After a couple winter months of living in your puffer–around this time in February when you start to see that your California friends are in dresses–you quickly get sick of that thing and get a bit more creative. This is when I discovered the power of layering coats. The key is a to wear tighter cashmere sweater layers underneath and a light weight coat with your bulkiest layer on top. This works great with fur or fluffier coats! Last week I layered my pink fluff (on sale! also love in black) over anything I could but I especially loved it layered over my leather jacket for a mix of tough meets sweet. I wore this combination on a couple occasions–with leather pants as seen here, and also with black skinny jeans and knee-high boots. And of course, my beanie! I didn’t understand how anyone could go without. Keeping my head warm is always the key for me. Plus I just love hats in general as some of you so sweetly have pointed out!
Loving it.
