how to style a loafer

Loafer Edit

When I asked for your fall style questions last week on Instagram I was surprised by how many requests I received and questions around loafers. So I thought I would round up some favorites! Loafers have long proven to be a classic. I pulled mine out again this past week as a way to transition into a fall mood myself. For one, they’re so comfy and two, the pair that I own from Freda Salvador * (the Char, more sizes here) give me a little bit of height which is what I love about a thicker soled heel / boot. I’ll take all the height I can get (even if just an inch or two!).

While I love the designer options and have been coveting this Prada loafer for awhile now (more sizes here)… in general I lean towards the non-logo / embellished styles as in my opinion, you’ll never tire of them. (I sold my Gucci slides a few seasons back for that very reason). I also like that the Freda Salvador version feel a bit more knock-around for me and I can walk all day long / up any hill in SF in these. Again, the positives of a thick soled shoe.

A few other favorites include: this pair from Loewe that you can wear as a slide as well. I love this travel style flat loafer from Toteme (also available in tan and black). And this mule style that I also own from Freda Salvador. I just love an embossed croc-leather as it’s so durable and wears really well / it’s also waterproof. And for a great save option, this classic penny loafer from JCrew.

As far as styling, I’ve been wearing my loafers with white tees and denim lately (because I’m such a simple t-shirt and denim girl) however I love them styled with dresses and skirts as well for more of a laid back, cool tomboy style. Especially love them with your end-of-summer dresses as a way to transition into the new season. As well as worn with tailored pants.
