I was thrown a doozy of a cold this past week that knocked me out clear through the weekend… and is still lingering today. I rarely get sick but when I do it’s my body’s way of telling me to slow down. So a weekend to simply rest, catch up on sleep (afternoon naps and early bed times felt so good), and hanging with fam was just what I needed. I think my absolute favorite weekend indulgence (besides getting the chance to sleep in) would hands down be a slow Sunday morning breakfast, preferably one with waffles involved! These photos are actually from a couple of weeks ago, we had recently upgraded our waffle game with this new All-Clad Waffle Maker from Williams-Sonoma, so a waffle breakfast was in order. We kept things simple… I made classic buttermilk waffles, french press coffee from The Mill, fresh berries, mangoes, and figs from the farmers market with local jam and honey to sweeten. Some weekends T has to go into the office, so I cherish mornings like this when we’re all together, when I (sort of) get to skim the paper, laughing at whatever Rex has to say, and planning our day’s activities. Probably best of all, the fact that Rex’s favorite “baby bear” comes to meals with us now. I mean it’s just the cutest.
Another recent morning upgrade, this time in the coffee department, a new french press and coffee bean grinder. Our coffee pot and grinder went out on us almost simultaneously and I had been wanting to get a french press anyway… and now I’m such a fan. There’s just something about the routine of boiling water and making a french press in the mornings.
Honey + Jam from The Mill.
Noteworthy, my new mugs and ceramic crush: Alex Marshall Ceramics. My mom and I stopped by her studio one weekend when I was home in Chico and my wish-list of her pieces continues to grow!
