NYC Long Weekend Fall Packing

I’m in packing mode this week for a long weekend in New York and I couldn’t be more excited to pull out my warmer layers and enjoy that east coast crisp fall weather. October is my absolute favorite time to be in New York. And this trip will be the first time T and I are back in the city together in a few years so I’m especially looking forward to date nights and long strolls.

When I travel to NY I like to pack carry-on if possible and I pretty much have my New York packing down to a science because I know myself / what I like to wear to be comfortable… what I’ll end up living in and what would just sit in my suitcase. But also, it’s New York!! so it’s always fun to bring a few special pieces to wear when there. This usually means a statement coat, boot or special going out top for me. I also am such a neutral / all-black person so this always makes packing in general really easy for me… no matter what city I’m dressing for. All pieces I can rewear throughout my time mixed and matched together with a few key accessories.

Here’s what I’m packing –– and wish I was packing (including some finds from Net-A-Porter’s 25% off Friends & Family sale that’s happening right now). NAP’s sale is always my absolute favorite!

NYC Packing List |

Comfortable sneakers for lots of walking. Saturday I’m planning to start downtown and work our way walking all the way up to Central Park. I miss days like that so much –– no plans and just stopping for food and popping into shops along the way.

— A ballet flat (I am such a fan of Porte & Paire’s flats and now own a few different styles from the brand. I have my eye on these in the red because I have been craving more of a colorful ballet flat to pair with denim for a fun pop). Always a good one to toss in your bag if you’re walking / need an option to swap your heels with.

Flat boots and/or heeled boot for day / night dressing. I prefer boots in place of heels in New York since I like to walk so much. If I’m not packing carry-on and have room then of course, I’ll toss in a fun heel. These give Prada vibes for less. (My go-to evening look is a heeled boot with black jeans / dressier top and blazer).

One coat (wear it on the plane) either a leather jacket, shearling jacket (I love the versatility of this one By Malene Birger you can wear it as both a shearling and leather jacket. And I tried this Jonathan Simkhai one on last week and it’s amazing for the price — so buttery soft! More sizes here), and a go with everything oversized blazer

— One pair of jeans that I will also plan to wear on the plane and for a casual day of NYC strolling. A black jean / pant or leather pant for evening.

— A belt for accessorizing (great for around blazers and dresses).

One dress (this one is a fun silver moment) if I feel like getting out of my jeans (I usually always throw in a slip dress / or skirt as a just in case).

— A date night top or two to pair with jeans or leather pants.

— A cozy knit for layering (a colorful moment or this sweater vest for layering).

One larger tote for my carry-on and a smaller bag (to take me from day to night).
