I gave my girlfriend a list of my New York recommendations and spots I loved from this past October trip that T and I took together and in doing so realized I still had not shared them here!
Gosh this trip made me so happy! This past September T traveled most of the month and missed my birthday. (No biggie, but I just wanted to spend time with him). So since he had a NY work trip on the calendar in October I begged the grandparents for babysitting and tagged along so I could get my fall fix. And get that quality time with him in my favorite city. It was the best belated bday present. I’m still daydreaming about how much fun we had.
Okay so here’s the short list of it… read on for the longer version if you like my rambling.
Eat: Frenchette in Tribeca (Paris vibes in New York, walking distance from our hotel so that made this an easy one), Time on Canal for sushi (a new gem of a tiny little spot… everything was delicious. Order the lychee martini for me), Estela (incredible meal and cozy spot if shopping around in Nolita / Soho area). Corner Bar (went for brunch which was yummy and cute! to check out the newly renovated Nine Orchard Hotel).
Shop: Toteme (the new Soho store is gorgeous), Desert Vintage (for vintage browsing), Kallmeyer New York (a chic made in New York brand) and exploring along the up-and-coming Orchard Street. Also always a must for me is shopping in Nolita and heading Uptown to The Row.
* We enjoyed nightly pre-dinner drinks at our hotel but I had on my list, Gem Wine on Broome Street, Le Dive on Canal St, and I still haven’t made it to Bemelman’s Bar at the Carlyle Uptown. Next time!
It was the first time T and I had been back to New York together in a couple years so it felt extra special. He was there for work and I tagged along at the end of the week and we switched hotels for the weekend, staying at The Greenwich Hotel. I’ve wanted to stay at the Greenwich Hotel since I lived in New York 8+ years ago now and so it felt like such a special bucket list of a treat.
Actually, do you remember when I polled everyone on Instagram last spring, asking for your favorite New York hotels?* The Greenwich Hotel was at the top of the list, honestly a little to my surprise. Pleasantly surprising I should say because the hotel is so me! And it made me very happy to realize you guys are all my people who would prefer to stay here over some of the other fancier hotels at the same price point. I definitely feel spoiled after staying here, it felt like an upgraded Ludlow experience. Downtown cool, cozy eclectic New York vibes and charm. The rooms were surprisingly huge –– especially by New York standards. And I loved being tucked away in a quiet part of Tribeca. We had a couple celeb sightings during our stay… Stanly Tucci was a fun one. Definitely where I’d want to stay again if traveling with Tanner!
October is the absolute best time of year to be in New York. The weather is absolutely perfect. I actually thought it was going to be cooler than it was but it still gave me the chance to pull out some fall layers and coats. I also love New York around Thanksgiving and early December when the lights are up and the city feels so festive and in the holiday spirit.
And because we lucked out with the weather I clocked in my fair share of steps this trip. Walking from Downtown to Uptown twice, and all over Tribeca, Soho, Nolita and the West Village visiting all of my old haunts and checking out some new to me spots this trip as well. After being in LA this past week where you have to drive everywhere and it felt like half of the day was spent in a car, it made me appreciate this New York trip and the fact that I walked everywhere we went. You just feel healthier when walking that much while traveling. Especially when you want to eat and drink your way through a city.
I spent a good amount of this trip on Orchard Street, ironically closer to the Ludlow Hotel where I usually stay. And ended up back over there a couple of the days… for a brunch date at Corner Bar (and checked out the Nine Orchard Hotel). And later back in the area, we had the best date at Time sushi which is just a tiny little spot but such a gem. Everything was delicious and it just felt like one of those only in New York kind of date spots. The cocktails were really delicious too!
I packed super light this trip (for a Wednesday through Sunday)… which I was proud of myself for. Rewearing multiple pieces which I also always feel good about when traveling. It’s the little things!
I love this Toteme top (now on sale) and skirt set for travel. (Still thinking about this dress version). Wrinkle free! I feel like my mom when I get excited about wrinkle-free pieces now. I wore the top separately with a leather jacket and jeans. Oh and I also clocked in 30k steps in these boots. The thicker sole makes them great for walking. They’re a heavier boot but I think the thicker sole makes them great for a lot of walking around.
