I realized yesterday that the missing gap in my spring / summer wardrobe right now is the more polished casual separates. Casual but nicer pants and skirts / shorts / dresses (I live in denim and have a variety of special occasion pieces)… but was I struggling to find the right look for our first 84 degrees day yesterday. And an outing to the museum in which I really didn’t want to wear jeans… but sure enough, ended up in white denim (which is my default).

I really struggle with bottoms / in this area which is why I do default to denim. Because a lot of skirts and dresses are overwhelming on my 5’1” frame. But I was inspired to pull together some ideas for myself though!… I may just have to try some options and have them altered to fit me as I’d want.

Polished Casual

I’m looking for more cotton / poplin dresses, skirts and pant options for these warmer days… that feel elevated and a bit nicer… an in-between that I can wear around my kids but also to the museum or a lunch date.

Like this easy dress to wear with flats (comes in a few colors). This vintage floral dress speaks to my feminine side. And I’m not usually one for gingham but I like the style of this dress too!

J.Crew also has some great cotton-poplin options (I like this top and skirt set!) and a linen skirt that looks like it would be a good fit on me.

The Row did a white cotton-poplin wide-leg but I prefer this save option. This pant might be a be too baggy on me but I’m tempted to try!! Let me know if you do!

I also really love this look and dress from La Ligne. There’s also this black version here ~ the top part is so flatting. The skirt is a bit too much material-wise on me sadly (I tried!) But if you’re taller this dress is a sure win. *code: ALICIA10 for La Ligne
