Weekend Packing List & My Perfect Day: NYC Lower East Side

Oh New York!! You energize me unlike any city. You guys know this already but I have to get to NYC every few months (was actually just there this past fall in October)… it’s just so necessary for my soul. I walk faster, talk faster,… it really is the city that lights me up! I feel the energy of the city and people on the streets, and just soak it all up. I always make sure to visit my usual old-neighborhood haunts while also trying to see a couple of newer-to-me spots as well. This trip was mainly filled with old-suspects. I stayed at my go-to hotel in the Lower East Side, The Ludlow, and spent most of my time downtown between the LES and the West Village. Sharing my looks from this trip as I tried to pack as minimally as possible. (Harder to do during the winter months when it’s necessary to wear 5 x layers but I think I did a pretty good job). It’s always fun for me to pull the pieces from my closet that don’t get as much play here in California. So here’s a glimpse at what I packed and what we did with our 3 nights, 4 days in NYC (without babes!)!

When packing minimally I try to plan out my outfits beforehand as best I can because I’ve arrived on one too many trips realizing the jeans I packed no longer zip or those shoes just don’t quite work with all of the looks you had thought they did (always annoying).  Another tip is that I only ever wear my jewelry, I don’t like traveling with a bunch of expensive jewelry (a tip I learned from my mom years ago)–so I’ll wear whatever jewelry I want on the plane and that’s all I have for the week. Even doing so this time I lost two earrings on this trip. (I think somewhere in the peeling off of layers!) Boooo.

My Packing List Included

3 Super warm coats (an old Helmut Lang puffer (similar, also loving this brand), Vince camel coat (similar), Jenni Kayne black shearling coat)–honestly could have gotten away with bringing along just 1 or 2

Jenni Kayne Coat. Totême Jeans. ATM Sweater. ByFar Boots (on sale here).

Style Notes: I can’t rave about this Jenni Kayne Shearling coat enough. It’s so warm and chic! (You can use my code: ALICIA20 for 20% off) I’m also loving these ByFar boots wayyy more than I originally thought and they’re so comfy. And lastly these
Totême jeans are a great high-rise straight leg style. I am going to eventually get them hemmed so they hit me at the right length but I love the detail of the twisted seaming.

Layering Tip: I always layer with a tank, long sleeve and light cashmere sweater underneath my jacket. Also always wear leggings / tights under my jeans. Basically I layer up as if I was going snowboarding haha. Then I’m comfortable and able to last all-after walking around which is the only way to explore New York.

Cashmere Everlane Hoodie (old, similar). Vince Jacket. Totême Jeans. ByFar Boots.

Style Note: I always layer a hoodie underneath a winter coat for a casual-cool look. It’s one of my go-to looks. I love this cashmere style from Everlane (I’ve had it for a couple years now). This was my look for gallery hopping and a little shopping in Nolita.
