We got a later than expected start up to South Lake Tahoe on Saturday (my sister and cousins got a flat tire on the Bay Bridge… womp, womp!) but once we finally arrived at the Coachman Hotel, and got some cheeseburgers in our bellies, it was just the getaway we had hoped it would be. My cousin Nikki just moved back home after living abroad in Shanghai and so a girls’ weekend (+ Rex) was in order. I had been wanting to stay at the much buzzed about and renovated 1960s motor lodge, and we were all craving a Tahoe trip so it wasn’t hard to convince them that the Coachman would be the perfect spot to hang for a night. The reclaimed wood accents, sleek design, great branding, and cozy-cool relaxed Tahoe vibe won us over.
We arrived just in time for the hotel’s happy hour (everyday from 3-6pm) and so we planted ourselves on this couch, ordered a couple glasses of Pinot and barely left. Located at the base of Heavenly it’s the perfect spot to stay if boarding as you can walk up the hill to the gondola, but also just a cozy place to hang for a staycation in Tahoe. A two hour drive (for me, from Sacramento) for fresh mountain air, a $5 glass of wine and girl-time–twist my arm.
At dusk each night they set out the s’mores fixings. I mean that just might be worth the drive in itself.
Rex and I were up bright and early so we checkout the breakfast situation before everyone else was up. Waffles and Stumptown Coffee cappuccinos sure made up for the fact that I don’t get to sleep in anymore while on vacation.
Besides being a quick walk up the hill to Heavenly, you’re also just a couple of blocks from the lake which makes me very excited to come back during the summer months. Also need to make use of the Coachman’s pool (was not ready to get into a bikini even for the hot tub quite yet). PS: These Tahoe beanies were a must–we snagged them at the hotel.
Looking back at all of these photos makes me laugh because I swear Rex was awake a whole lot more than it appears. He did so great on this trip–he runs hot so I think he really loved the cool mountain air.
Tip | We ended up ordering pizzas from Vinny’s to be delivered to our room instead of going out. Totally recommend. Grab drinks and hang at the hotel lobby then head to your room for face masks and pizza. Whether you’ve spent the day on the mountain, by the lake or just in the car, never leaving the hotel except on foot made our mini staycation feel all the more relaxing.
And what to pack…
