Cambria Guide: Stay, Eat, Drink, Do

Stephanie made her way down to Cambria–specifically to check out the Cambria Beach Lodge that we both had heard was adorable and she came back raving that it was, and that Cambria was the perfect girls’ getaway she had hoped it would be.  I honestly only think of Hearst Castle when I think of that area (don’t get me wrong–I love a Hearst Castle tour!) but she put together quite the little weekend itinerary that is making me want to head down to soak up all of the laid back coastal vibes myself.  Low-key beach weekend… yes please!  #CITNB Cambria Guide…

Cambria, California may just be the last, undiscovered California coastal destination. With a laid-back, authentic vibe, Cambria is unspoiled by tourism and feels quite like going back to simpler times. Wine tasting, whale watching, antiques and quality food await in this peaceful oasis along the Pacific.

Where to stay

A sucker for good design and rooftop views, Cambria Beach Lodge had me at hello. The lodge is the “roadside hotel reimagined” located along the most stunning piece of the Pacific. Each newly redesigned room features a beach inspired theme, sun bleached wood floors, turquoise accents and king bed. The property itself is undeniably charming, and its location even better. We woke up to the sound of seagulls and waves each morning, proceeded to grab our piping cup of coffee + flakey croissant from the lobby area, and head straight to the sand to watch the fog burn off. Staying at the lodge truly made our experience in Cambria and while this was a sister-sister/overdue-girl-time getaway, the lodge would also make for a lovely romantic escape.

Where to eat/drink

Sea Chest – This iconic, cash only dinner restaurant is located right across from the sea and is best known for, well, its seafood. The food is raved about by many, the oyster bar raved about by all. Pro tip: get there before they open (5:00 p.m.) to guarantee a table, there’s typically a wait.

Black Cat Bistro – This intimate bistro and wine bar serves up delicious, authentic French cuisine in a cozy setting. Fried green olives stuffed with gorgonzola followed by local abalone paired with champagne? Pinch me.

Madeline’s Wine Shop – Sit down and enjoy a meal + glass, or stock up on local bottles to take home.

927 Beer Company – An inviting, friendly micro-brewery frequented by locals, offering a selection of table games, and beers all brewed right across the street!

Cafe – While there are several cafes in Cambria, this one is undoubtedly the best. Soups, salads and sandwiches piled high in an eclectic home-turned-restaurant with quaint patio seating.

Cambria Coffee Roasting Company – Grab a cup of single origin to go, or sit down and enjoy your french press with a pastry.

What to do

Antiquing – There are tons of cute antique shops here, all of them worth a peek!

Bike along the path – Cambria Beach Lodge provides cruisers for guests looking to leisurely cruise along the beach, and make for the perfect opportunity to spot whales and seals!

Visit Hearst Castle – A trip to Cambria isn’t complete with paying a visit to legendary Hearst Castle. William Randolf Hearst’s extravagant home is the perfect half day experience, plus, there are zebras, so.
