2 Fall Layering Basics

There’s nothing I love more than pulling back out all of my fall sweaters, coats, and leather separates come September.  It’s around this time that I asses what I have, what is looking sad and needs to go, what basics are missing… and give my wardrobe a bit of a seasonal refresh.  Of course I splurge on a couple new season style finds, but the items that I always rebuy this time of year that make such a difference when styling last year’s fall favorites are a few layering basics.

My fall layering basics | 1. easy layering tank (in black and white)  and 2. tissue thin turtlenecks (gray and black)

I stopped into Nordstrom and stocked up on my favorites.  Halogen has a great affordable selection of long layering tanks that I like to wear under my sweaters and dresses for added warmth, tucked into jeans, or even layered over tees as styled here.  Another must that I rebuy this time of year, the tissue thin turtleneck.  I really got into layering these when I lived on the East Coast.  A must when it’s negative-crazy degrees outside!  I love that the collar adds a bit of interest when layering under dresses, sweaters, and coats.  Vince makes my favorite splurge-worthy tissue thin one as it’s ribbed and feels dressier.  I like that they can be worn on their own with denim or dressed up if worn with a skirt or under a dress for work.

I brought this studded leather miniskirt with me to London and it was one of the fall pieces I was most excited about wearing.  I’ve since worn it a number of ways.  With boots, sneakers, slouchy sweaters, and pretty blouses.  I’m obsessed!
