My Recipe for the Everyday Uniform

The older I get the less trends excite me and the more I gravitate towards an everyday uniform.  We’re not talking Steve Jobs status–but it makes for effortless style and a simplified morning routine. The key to this uniform?  Quality basics that I can restyle over and over again… a recipe of favorites (great denim, comfy boots, and a stylish knit) which I seemingly, and rather unknowingly, just keep coming back to.  And invest in year after year.

The Foundation: Great Fitting Jeans | Finding your most flattering denim style is the ultimate secret ingredient when it comes to creating your uniform.  Once you find the pair you feel your best in I always suggest buying it in multiple washes.  You know I love my high-rise jeans, and I’ve been wearing this style from Citizens of Humanity for a few years now as it elongates my shorty 5’1” frame.

Set the Base for Layering: The Blouse | I’ve been living in this blouse from Dôen.  A) It’s easy for nursing.  B)  I love the toffee color.  C)  But probably most importantly, it looks just as good a bit wrinkled as it does steamed so that’s a low-maintence win for me right now as a new mama.  oh and D)  Big fan of the cropped and billowy silhouette.

The Third Piece: The Cardigan | This knit is a favorite of mine as it’s easy to throw on and goes with everything.  You can belt it or leave it open and it’s always an easy option to grab for as I’m running out the door.

Pull It Together: The Boots | Like a great pair of flattering denim, finding a comfy pair of boots can be just as key.  I opt for a pair that’s equally as stylish as they are practical.  Once you find them you might want to invest in multiple colors as well.  This pair from Isabel Marant and this pair from Marc Fisher continue to be flat boot faves of mine because they’re comfortable and a great go-with everything suede brown.

Accessorize | I have a few pieces of jewelry that I never take off (my earrings and a dainty star necklace by Adina Reyter).  I take my rings off nightly (and as you can see forgot to wear them on this particular day–oops!)… but usually I am always wearing them and rotate in a few additional classic and sentimental faves: a gold cuff, my charm necklace (although I sadly can’t wear it too much these days as Rex either grabs for it or it knocks him in the head), and a trusty pair of aviators.

The Look | Dôen Top (similar).  Citizens of Humanity Jeans (same–different wash).  Isabel Marant Sweater (love this similar option) + Boots.  Sunglasses.
