I basically ruled out maxi dresses completely over the years because of my height but have since discovered that it just takes searching for the right one. And once you find it it’s a closet staple and fall back item almost as key as that little black dress. Maxi’s are an awesome option to turn to when you don’t know how fancy an occasion / event might be or for transitioning from day to night. They’re dressy without trying too hard with an effortless and feminine feel. Needless to say, when in doubt lately I throw on a maxi and always felt put together plus it gives a nod to the California bohemian dressing I was all about this summer.
I wore this look to grab pasta at one of my favorite spots in the West Village: Aria. I just love the cozy, bustling vibe of this neighborhood spot and took my friend Krystal here for her first time while visiting just a few weeks ago. I find myself craving their fungi pasta all the time so thank goodness for girlfriends who will accompany you to get your fix.

My fellow shorties remember my tip for finding the perfect maxi? Don’t over look the midi’s! This dress, this one and this sweet number are actually all midi length on the models but skim at the perfect length on me. Midi-length dresses on me usually hit at the ideal length so I can wear them with flats or heels (but at least I have options!). I currently have my eye on a few more for this fall…
