31 (years old) doesn’t sound nearly as exciting as 30 but with baby boy on the way I’m pretty positive it’s going to be the best year yet. Around our birthdays each year my sister, cousins, and I (we’ve been coined the sister-cousins) ask each other what’s your “birthday slogan?” My sister has had her “What would Beyoncé do?” year (in which she really put herself out there, took as many chances as possible, and happened to meet her boyfriend), my cousin Michelle is currently in her “mind, body, spirit–focus on yourself –kinda year” (in which she quit a job she wasn’t happy in to pursue a completely different career). Having this slogan can be the perfect way to stay focused throughout the year on what is important and what you want for the year ahead. This past weekend we went out for pasta and I had yet to think of my 31st year mantra. It wasn’t until just last night that I realized I’ve already been living it.
You see yesterday was perfect in every way. I woke up to a silly card and flowers on my bedside table, listened to our baby’s heartbeat at my 32 week check-up, enjoyed lunch and a trip to Target with my mom, and finished the day eating tacos with my guy. Maybe it doesn’t sound like the most exciting of birthdays, but it goes perfectly with my goal for this next year–to slow down, appreciate the present, and spend more time with the ones you love.
