5 Things | Sept 27

5 Things from September ~ to be honest this has been a very hard month for my family. We lost my grandpa (Papa) and my heart is completely broken for my Nana especially who lost the love of her life (70 years of marriage which is something I’ve always looked up to in my own marriage). But it’s true what they say, you can somehow find joy in the sad times too and this month was filled with good (the spontaneity of meeting a girlfriend in Paris for the weekend), birthday celebrations and lots of family time filled with long hugs, great stories, laughter about my goofy Papa and healing cries.

Here’s what’s been good to me this month: spontaneity and family

Daily phone calls with my mom, Nana and sister

Writing

The power of getting dressed everyday truly can transform our moods!

Long walks through our neighborhood and making it to pilates (2/3 times a week if I can… I go to Humani Pilates).

Watched: Amazon’s The Summer I Turned Pretty (based on the book series). I needed something light this past month and this was an easy high school romance that my girlfriends all recommended and it was just the distraction I’ve been needing. I mean, yes I felt a bit old watching this but I still totally enjoyed… team Conrad.

Easy Listening: back on a Novo Amor kick

Style-wise I’m most excited about: cozy sweater weather worn with slightly wider / straight leg jeans and pulling out all of my blazers

(a really great houndstooth under $150 and I’m crushing on a classic navy blazer with jeans after Paris).

Book To Browse

I received my copy of Sense of Place the night before my trip to Paris so I hadn’t had a chance to fully dive into it until this week. I’ve now poured over it and am so proud of my friend and co-author, Caitlin Flemming… and my close girlfriend Stephanie Russo who photographed the book. I have to say after traveling and then coming back home it’s made me appreciate home all over again. So inspiring! I just love to a peak into people’s spaces / design world so much.

Have you seen By Malene Birger’s exclusive Fall Capsule for Moda?! So good! You know my love for that Scandinavian minimalist aesthetic over the past couple seasons / years. It’s truly a brand that has been speaking to me and what I’m craving as far as personal style and the pieces I want to invest in. I especially love this spring 24 skirt too.

Fun Fact | Malene Birger’s home is featured in Sense of Place!

Fool Proof Longwear Liquid Eyeshadow

When I was in Paris my friend Chris was wearing the most gorgeous eye shadow. She let me try it for an evening out and I bought it immediately: Chanel’s Ombre Premiere Laque in Desert Wind (more colors here and here). It’s seriously fool proof (key for me)… simply smudge / blend it onto your lids. It’s long-wearing / buildable for a darker shade and the ideal sheer shimmer smokey eye shade. Highly recommend trying if you like a one-step easy eye like me! I don’t get excited about eye makeup very often so this is big for me.

Wear Now: Blazers

I believe I’ve mentioned this is my post when I came back from Paris but being there made me appreciate the power of a great blazer. It dresses up denim in the best way and there’s just something so effortlessly cool and put together at the same time. It’s truly all you need to bring on a trip to elevate your looks and feel your best. So excited for blazer / jacket season!

Here are a few favorites right now. Different styles for different moods… whether that’s oversized (love this houndstooth one, under $150), structured (another option, also love) or a more fitted classic style (under $80, very Parisian in the dark navy, also! camel).

On My Wishlist

Toteme’s new fall pieces is everything I want to wear this season. (You’re probably so tired of me saying this, ha!) I appreciate that this coat comes in a size 30 now which would finally fit me! And I have had my eye on this bag for an easy day bag. I may have to loop back with a dedicated post of favorites but in the meantime here’s what’s on my wishlist.
