When it comes to comfort food and a low-key, relaxed setting with the coolest vibe–South is the first place that comes to mind here in Sacramento. It’s just my kind of unfussy, cacti lining the windowsills, overall chill atmosphere that lures you in for hours. The perfect end-of-the-day wanna wind down kinda spot, and ideal place meet a group of friends for a drink and some gosh darn good fried chicken. (Because you can’t go without ordering the fried chicken.)
In my opinion it’s best to go with a group and order an assortment of dishes to share family style. You really can’t go wrong but the grilled shrimp, kale salad, grits, and chicken are all musts. Also, my guy would say the mac-n-cheese is an absolute must as well.
I had been wanting to snag this front window seat table for months now and finally learned the secret to that–arrive crazy early. Like grandma’s dinner time. This early to dinner tactic worked in Rex’s favor as we ate, enjoyed our friends company, had a few drinks and were home in plenty of time for his evening bedtime routine. Which actually made us rethink all of our late night dates?… so much easier and relaxing when you start the night earlier nowadays.
South’s owner, N’Gina also recently opened a new vintage shop (The Quinn) just around the block that you should also totally check out when in the Southside Park area.
Looking forward to warmer nights to come and dinner dates outdoors again! Soon!
