One of the hardest aspects of remodeling our house I’ve found has been that my personality wants everything done–now. I don’t like unfinished projects and yet on the flip side it’s been nice to live in the house and figure out what we want to work on next, and which pieces of furniture we actually need for the various rooms. This was one of the best pieces of advice we were given–to live in the space before buying very much new furniture. With that said, I of course didn’t listen and bought a few pieces before moving in (like our dining set–which, thankfully, has turned out to be perfect)… but I’m glad we mostly waited and are taking our time finding just the right pieces for our lifestyle.
The room that needs the most help right now is our living room. We’re making do with our old couch from New York but movie nights aren’t what they should be. I’m itching for an upgrade and something that is lounge-ier and fits the room better (size-wise). To go with the couch and the family room vibe I’m picturing a mix of eclectic chairs–1) a woven style for in the windows (perfect spot for reading) and a cool pair of midcentury low-riders. Preferably leather (I wish!). I’ve been scouring my local vintage and antique shops on the regular as well as the web and have rounded up some additional favorites here. I would love to have you weigh in!
