Each new season offers a reminder to reset, and yet with a whole slew of changes happening over in our world this fall especially feels like the perfect time to reevaluate our routines, to unplug, and simply slow down. Since my weekly schedule and days vary this makes keeping some sort of consistency no matter where I am even more important (for my sanity). Priority number one for me during this final trimester has been to slow down my mornings (even if this means getting up earlier), as I’ve found this makes the biggest impact on my day. Taking time to sip my morning espresso, read the newspaper, and take a mini morning walk all before checking my email sets me up for a more productive / calm day.
I’ve made a conscious effort to cut back on my caffeine intake since I’ve been pregnant but (yes there’s a but!) it’s been my one vice that I haven’t kicked completely. Even on those mornings when I wake up feeling refreshed and I know I don’t necessarily need the coffee induced buzz it’s all about the routine for me. Since I was finding that I was making a pot at home that would mainly end up down the sink, or that my coffee shop cups would inevitably barely be sipped (yes I’ve weened myself off that much!) I’ve been making more use out of our Nespresso machine. This past month I found a permanent spot for it out on our counter in the bar and it’s become my morning treat.
