I’ve always been a reader. Ask my sister or cousin who still like to tease me about the number of times I would hide from them in my closet growing up just so I could finish my book. (Now looking back, that’s future parenting goals!) But motherhood, as you know, cuts into precious “me time” and reading is something I haven’t made a priority over the past couple of years. Leave it to a global pandemic, complete isolation, stepping away from the internet for a minute (ha!)–to get me back into the reading groove again. I began quarantine on a high-note–Where the Crawdads Sing. Then, at the peak of lockdowns at a personal low I found myself ordering all of the positive self-help, anti-racist, manifesting, spiritual books. Reading all of those were really uplifting for me but after a stack of those on your nightstand for a few months I’ve been craving fiction again. Segue–Normal People. Only a couple years late to the book and now a few months late to the craze of the Hulu show I know, but Connell and Marianne were just the escape I’ve been needing. I binge watched the show and loved it so much I ran out to buy the book and finished it in one day. Out-of-order, I wish I had read the book first–but after chatting with multiple friends we all agreed that this is one of those rare times when the show out-does the book. Also, largely due to my new-found crush: Paul Mescal. Watch and read both if you haven’t yet and are looking for a modern day romance.
I’m diving into Sally Rooney’s Conversations with Friends next and plan to jump into this great list some more after getting these recs from all of you! I’ll continue to share favorites as I read!
* Also, side note, while browsing Pinterest I stumbled upon this NYC apartment tour and this is exactly where I wish I was curled up reading.
