In true “I have a baby now and my priorities have changed” fashion, I didn’t get this post up in time for Mother’s Day. But better late than never right?!
Besides the crazy love I feel for Rex and the joy he has brought into our world one of the other very special aspects of motherhood is how much it has made me appreciate my mom (and all of the moms!). She’s just the best. I don’t think you can really understand that mama kind of love and all of the sacrifices and things that come with this role until you have a babe of your own. The three AM feedings, being that girl at the UPS store with a screaming baby, the clumps of hair Rex pulls out of my head (seriously dime size at times thanks to his little death grip), how often I change my top in a day thanks to all of the bodily functions–mom has experienced it all. But there’s also the contagious smiles and the sound of his giggles, his non-stop wiggles that constantly make me laugh, the babbling, the way he looks at me… and as my mom reminds me it only continues to get better. This motherhood journey has truly made me understand what my mom went through for my sister and I. The past six months (and 9+ being pregnant) have made me appreciate her more than ever, and has made me feel so fortunate to have her in my life as she sadly didn’t have her mom around when she was raising my sister and I. And I just can’t imagine that or life without her. So thank you mom, and all of the mamas for everything you do. You’re inspiring! And thank you Rex for showing me a whole new kind of love. Life just keeps getting better and better thanks to you.
And about the weekend–my first Mother’s Day! | My guy surprised me with an overnight in Oakland following a Mother’s Day Pop-Up I hosted with Citizens of Humanity at Anthropologie on Saturday (just a card would have been awesome but he obviously read this post and gets lots of points as I’ve been wanting to spend a weekend in Oakland with him for awhile now). A night in Oakland with my boys meant: Blue Bottle coffee (duh), mexican food joined by my sister and cousins at Dona Tomas, farmers market cheeries (the first of the season for me!), hitting up a few of my go-to shops (Neighbor and Esqueleto), showing my guy the house my mom grew up in and plenty of Rex snuggles and squeals. I think Mother’s Day might be one of my new favorite holidays–perfectly low key, slowing down to be with the fam, and a great reminder of what’s most important. Thanks for making it extra special T!
