Autumn Equinox with Jeune Wine

Gathering around this colorful candlelit table in the middle of Cobram Estate’s olive groves this past weekend and the group of old and new friends (that sorta felt like kismet brought us together)… was pretty special.  I can’t think of a better way to round out summer and begin a new season.  I feel like I’m entering fall on an especially creative high note surrounded by incredible women (and men!) doing really rad things locally which is exciting me about Sacramento more and more.  And especially after such a slow “momming” and newborn filled summer, the energy and shift in the air as we move into autumn… well, I’m feeling it!

Our evening began with a group of us piling into the bed of my friend Kevin’s truck (“Blanca”–you’ve seen her before here), racing through the olive groves.  A few dusty turns later and we had arrived (a little wind blown!) to this magical dinner party scene.  The occasion: celebrating the launch of Jeune’s Wine Club.

My girlfriends Kaila and Emily–the duo behind local design group Wool Design–teamed up with sommelier, Tyler Stacy, over the summer to open a natural wine pop-up here in Sacramento.  Everything was done right, because of course, it was them.  Such a chic and minimal space, and just my low-key vibe.  Plus it was super fun to have a spot in town to taste new-to-me natural wines.  I’ve loved learning more about Pét-Nats (remember me mentioning how into them I’ve been here), orange wines, carbonic zins and other funky sips through them.  Everyone was bummed when they “popped-out” at the end of the summer but the exciting news is that Jeune will now be launching a wine club, shipping a selection of curated natural wines to your door!  So if you’re a fan of natural wine and are curious to get on their mailing list, you can sign up here.  Officially launching this next month!

Kaila on my left and Emily on my right.  The babes behind both Wool Design and Jeune and the duo making Sacramento cool!  Side note:  I’m currently also very excited about the design they’ve been working on for Faria Bakery, due to open this fall in Oak Park.

Stunningly simple decor–multicolored taper candles (love that two were shoved into one holder) and florals by Oak & Ash.  The vibe of this Oak & Ash arrangement reminded me of the flowers from Ulla Johnson’s fall runway presentation I went to this past February.  Felt so fresh on the table–Jessica is such a talent!  Also, I may have just ordered hot pink and taupe taper candles following this dinner to pull together a similar vibe at home.

Laura Schrool (of the made in CA organic cotton underwear line, Pansy.  I’m getting this set now by the way because I’m all about a super high-rise.)  +  Maia Smith (of my favorite online kids boutique, Bitte).  And unfortunately not pictured, but just out of frame–I got to meet one of my all-natural skincare faves: Sarah Buscho from Earth Tu Face.  I had a major girl crush / super fan moment when I put that together!

Kevin was on the grill with the freshest Cobram Estate olive oil that had been pressed just hours prior.  Oh hello harvest season!  So green, so delicious!  You haven’t tasted ridiculously good olive oil if you’ve never had it straight from the olive.

His evening menu included:

charred romano beans with pancetta, aioli and sweet herbs

grilled squash with lemon conserva, ricotta and verbena

halibut crudo, EVOO, harissa, shiso

duck with miso creamed corn and elderberry

peach semifreddo with lavender honey almonds drizzled with EVOO

Loved this sweetly simple scene oh so much!  And do you spy the doubled-up Dragon Diffusion bags?  Loved Laura’s lighter version of mine.

Pink sparkling Pét-Nat to kick-off the evening.

Love this label so much which was designed by artists from Creative Growth.  Very on brand for Jeune too.
