Today marks a very exciting day for my guy and I–we’re picking up the keys to our first house! It’s still crazy to me that this fall marks two years for us now in Sacramento and that just a couple years back in New York the thought of a house made me feel claustrophobic. Oh how much can change, and oh how excited I am to be finished with apartment living and to have a backyard (bbqs! a dog!).
Between the house hunting, the purchasing (ah!), and having the current owners rent back from us for a couple months, it’s been quite the process already and we feel like we’ve entered into a whole new right of passage of adulthood as homeowners. It took us some time to narrow down the neighborhood we wanted but once we did, and got into the mindset that renovations can be fun (that’s actually all me saying that not so much my guy, ha), we fell quickly for our 1930’s colonial-style charmer. It has so much history, character, is located on one of our favorite streets, and couldn’t be more ideal for us and our lifestyle.
I’ve been saving decor inspiration for a while now and will of course be sharing more in the coming months as the renovations take place, but here are some of the elements I’m excited to incorporate in the main great room, kitchen and dining space.
I’m drawn to quite an eclectic mix of decor styles so narrowing things down has been the hardest part for me. While I’ve loved our current industrial loft vibe (which you can also see and read about here)–I’m looking forward to decorating with more of a bohemian California flair while staying true to the style and character of the house.
Open shelving, brass accents, a breakfast nook, airy and an overall inviting and comfortable space are most important to us.
Planning to have some fun in the powder room with Moraccan style accents and decor! Maybe some fun tiles too.
And possibly the most fun room of all–my future office inspiration.
