To prep for Saturday night my girlfriend Kristine and I went to the local floral mart and picked out a bunch of bright blooms. We actually had a much larger dinner party (150 people) coming up–as you may have seen over on snapchat: AliciaMLund–to practice making floral arrangements for so this was a great trial run.
Tip for making your own arrangements: eucalyptus is affordable, goes a long way, always looks so pretty and is the perfect filler… so load up!
You know I’m such a fan of catering when it comes to hosting as I hate to stress over the food, so I ordered all of the taco bar fixings from my favorite local spot: Zocalos. Mmmm, yes please to their ceviche, cilantro rice, super yummy black beans, pork… and all of the salsas. And of course, plenty of chips and guac. Creating a taco bar might just be the easiest party food (remember my 30th birthday?)–everyone helps themselves and you can’t go wrong with Mexican food. I would go as far as to say it’s the universal crowd pleaser (maybe even over pizza?).
We had a few college friends in town spending the weekend with us which was perfect timing so I put them to work helping me set up the taco bar, salting the rims of the mini mason jars, and taste-testing my jalapeño infused margaritas before everyone arrived.
