Flashing back to mid-Decemeber here–and sharing the remainder of our sunny photos (for some warmth!) from our sail through the Virgin Islands. What my guy and I found to be the most surprising part about the entire trip for us was the fact that we enjoyed relaxing on the boat and sailing out at sea just as much as our port days. (Really didn’t see that one coming as I thought I’d be the one begging to get off the ship each day.) Our excursions off the boat were just an added bonus of the trip and I thought I’d highlight my favorite stops: Puerto Rico and St. Maarten.

Our first stop, and my personal favorite was: Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Now I know cruise ships tend to drop you off in the most touristy of locations but thanks to my close (and perhaps most stylish) girlfriend Chris, who is from Puerto Rico, I had a list in hand of where I wanted to go. Although regardless of whether Chris had given me the names of the quaintest streets to walk along or not, I think I still would have fallen for this city. The colors, the charm, the fact that I felt like I was in Spain, and the kind people. I was in heaven–and loved getting lost in a sea of colorful houses with cute yellow and pink doors.
In San Juan we stumbled upon a few gems–a tiny custom panama hat shop called Olé (I definitely regret not buying one!), a cool bar called La Factoria which we were pretty excited about finding because it felt very “local” to us although how are we to really know?, and El Jibarito for traditional dishes. (The bartender from La Factoria tipped us off on that last one.) I definitely want to return to Puerto Rico soon–hopefully with my girlfriend Chris for a true Puerto Rican experience–as I feel like I only scratched the surface.
From Puerto Rico we sailed to St. Thomas. I unfortunately don’t have any photos from our time on this island as we spent the day snorkeling and kayaking… but we had a lot of fun racing in our kayak (this was our second time kayaking together and I think we may have found one of our favorite couple sports!) and spotting colorful fish, and even a giant stingray.

Our last stop, which was my guy’s favorite, was St. Maarten. The white sandy beaches were gorgeous… and exactly how I pictured the Virigin Islands to be. We got a pretty good tour of the island riding along in rhino boats and enjoyed checking out all of the incredible yachts docked around the island. Wow! After boating around and swimming in the ocean for a couple of hours we cleaned up, and enjoyed fresh coconuts and a light lunch on the beach.
Thank you to Celebrity Cruises for the fun memories! We can’t wait to plan our next sea bound getaway. Where to next? Have you been on a cruise before–where did you go??
