3-Steps: Everyday Highlights and Contouring

As someone who has fair skin and prefers a simple makeup routine, the thought of contouring and highlighting always seemed like one too many steps for me (and something I would surely mess up). It wasn’t until more recently, after my girlfriend went on raving about the powers of contouring, and Clinique introduced me to their new Chubby sticks, that I agreed to give this defining trick a try.

I wanted to create a more natural look–nothing too dramatic or heavy–but simply defining my best angles. I was pleasantly pleased with the outcome, and seeing that I received quite a few makeup-related compliments on this particular day I’d definitely say I’m sold on the powers of contouring / highlights and thought I’d share!

Step I | Highlight the areas light hits naturally using Clinique’s Chubby Stick Sculpting Highlight. I chose to highlight my cheekbones, nose, and cupid’s bow (top of the lip)

Step 2 | Next draw brown lines all over on your face (not really but it is kind of fun) with Clinque’s Chubby Stick Sculpting Contour. I didn’t get too carried away with the contour stick but you certainly could. I added contour underneath my cheekbones and the bridge of my nose. You may also want to do the jawline and chin. And be sure to blend in well!

Step 3 | After blending steps 1 & 2 completely, finish the look with a swipe of glowy blush on the apples of your cheeks using Clinique’s Sculptionary Cheek Contouring Palette.

Packing for New York | Clinique’s new sticks took away all previous intimidation factors for me. They’re so easy to use and perfect for on the go touch-ups. They came with me to New York this week–along with my daily stack of gold jewels and these killer boots which now I’m afraid to wear out in the snow. Not sure what I was thinking there!

I have to note this cropped sweater / top from A.O.T.C. (“ahead of the Curve” – Curve boutique’s line). I’m obsessed with cropped silhouettes at the moment paired with high-waisted denim (you know these are my fave, I have them in almost every wash).
