I truly love our tiny backyard. It’s charming and when in full bloom you really didn’t even notice that the fence was falling apart… and that our garage / pergola could use a good power wash… or that our rosemary was completely crisped. (Or at least I had those rose colored glasses on when I was hanging out back.) Perks of buying an older home meant it had an established yard–-one that we’ve worked on here and there over the years but haven’t touched too much until this past fall.
It’s been the absolute perfect size yard for baby life / young toddlers, and most of my days when Willow was a newborn were spent lounging in our lawn. It was so ideal to be able to pull a blanket outside, plop down in the sunshine and even be able to close my eyes while Rex played in the yard (because I knew he couldn’t escape or get hurt). And especially this past year, through the pandemic, I was beyond thankful for any patch of grass to call our own!
Over the past couple of years I have been saving inspiration for what I’ve been calling my “secret garden” in hopes that one of these days we would get around to sprucing our sweet backyard up to the potential I knew it had. And now I’m so excited that we’re so close to finally being finished! And the timing is going to be perfect for spring / summer backyard lounging and al fresco dining. I can’t wait to share more, but in the meantime here’s a bit of a mood board for you. Now I’m on the hunt for the ideal vintage patio set––think Call Me By Your Name, European cafe table. A place to sit in the sun and read while Rex and Willow play. Or have a glass of wine––at least that’s my dream.
